The Experience

Ski and train from mountains to fjords is a 5-day tour combining some of the finest skiing in Norway with accommodation at historic hotels, local cuisine, a cruise on the UNESCO World Heritage fjord Nærøyfjorden, and travel with the spectacular railway Flåmsbanen. Skill level: The trip is adapted according to the level of the group, but we have set the level of difficulty medium as standard. This is the trip for those who have experience with day trips and peak trips. You are a competent skier who can handle all conditions, including powder up to 20 cm, wind-packed snow and forest skiing. You have good speed control during off-piste driving and can also take short jump turns if necessary. You have basic knowledge of mountain climbing, walking techniques and equipment. You must be in good physical shape and have good stamina. You will climb a minimum of 1,000 meters of altitude each day, and approx. 300 meters of altitude per hour. You must be able to be out on a trip for 6-8 hours at a relatively leisurely pace, with several breaks.

 

Guide: Sigurd Felde - Nortind-certified summit guide

 

Sigurd is a Norwegian summit guide with 20 years mountaineering experience. He has been a guide in Svaneti since 2013 and has skied on most continents, including Antarctica. He has also been on several long skiing expeditions. In addition to his skiing experience, Sigurd is also one of Norway's most accomplished climbers, and has climbed some of the most demanding and technical mountains in the world, including K2, Trango, K7, Kiguti on Baffin Island, Ketilfjell on Gørnland and Cerro Fitzroy in Patagonia.

 

Equipment: We will provide a suggested packing list for each trip, but all participants on our peak trips must have basic avalanche equipment as a minimum. This includes avalanche finder, search rod and shovel. It is possible to hire equipment at Voss for those who wish to do so.
