Tentative Itinerary*:

 

Day 1

Morning flight from Tokyo Haneda to Shirahama Airport where your journey will commence. You'll be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Settle in for the evening at the Hotel Seamore.

 

Day 2

The Sandanbeki Cliffs await you today, you'll explore the network of pirate caves, taking in the sound of the crashing waves. Following is a peaceful Shrine experience where you'll learn unique practices undertaken in ceremonies. After lunch, commence your trek from Takajiri-Oji to Takahara (3.9 km's). Enjoy lookout sites along the way, accompanying you is the sound of the distant stream, enveloped by lush forest. Arriving at your mountain hideaway the traditional Kiri no Sato Takahara, you'll enjoy a simple dinner, the perfect end to your day.

 

Day 3

Meet your guide and commence your trek from Takahara to Tsugizakura-Oji (13 km's). Today you'll encounter cobblestoned steps, and cedar trees aged 800 years. Break for lunch and bask in the sunshine as you enjoy your Bento box. Nearing the end of the day's trek, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment at the torii gate in front of a steep and ancient stone staircase, flanked by gigantic cedar trees. Arrival at the Guest House MUI, a simple and charming spot, relax and enjoy dinner before retreating for the night.

 

Day 4

Prepare for a serene day of trekking from Tsugizakura-Oji to Hosshinmon-Oji (13 km's) with your guide. A private vehicle awaits you at the end of your trek, as you transfer to the lovely Azumaya in Yunomine Onsen, the oldest hot spring in Japan boasting 1800 years of history. Rest and rejuvenate in the hot springs as you recount the highlights of your day.

 

Day 5

Transfer to the start of your walk -Hosshinmon-Oji and trek to Hongu Taisha (7.5 km's). Delight in a washi paper-making experience where you'll collect shrine stamps. At last you'll reach Hongu Taisha, a major shrine in the Kumano region, with an important history pre-dating the 9th century. Following is a ride on the local bus to a nearby port and hop aboard a sightseeing boat to Hayatama Taisha. Once here a private car will escort you to your accommodations for the evening.

 

Day 6

Enjoy a guided tour today to Nachi Shrine where you'll have an introduction to Nachi Taisha and Buddhism. The Nachi Shrine is home to the tallest waterfall in Japan, the focus of the merging of Shinto and Buddhist religions. A day for self-reflection, you'll be moved by the three-story pagoda that gently sits in the backdrop of the waterfall. After your visit, train to Osaka where a car will meet you and transfer you to the elegant Conrad Osaka.

 

Day 7

Beautiful Osaka awaits as you start your day on a guided tour to the Castle, followed by a Scissor and Bonsai Artisan visit. Meet a talented landscape gardener and observe as he shapes and designs a bonsai tree with such skill! This afternoon, stroll the port city of charming Kobe with your guide. Following is a lively and delectable teppanyaki-style dinner with Kobe beef as the star dish! It's like nothing you've experienced. Overnight this evening at the lovely Meriken Park Oriental hotel.

 

Day 8

Bullet train to Okayama Village this morning with your guide. A private vehicle awaits to whisk you to the Uno Port where you'll board a private yacht for a day of Island hopping! Stop to visit several art venue's on this tour - Inujima Seirensho, Teshima Art Museum and Les Archives du Coeur. A delectable lunch awaits you onboard. Last stop is Naoshima Island where you will stay overnight at the incredible Benesse House.

 

Day 9

Cycle your way around the Island today on a scenic guided tour. Your day will be full of inspiration and wonder, as you slow down to view the world-famous pumpkin statue and admire artwork from both the Ando and the stunning Chichu Museum – a structure that was built right into the hillside overlooking the southern Coast of the Island.

 

Day 10

Ferry to Takamatsu village this morning and stroll the prettiest gardens at Ritsurin Park on this self-guided tour. A peaceful place to unwind and to treasure the beauties it offers from the Engetsu-kyo Bridge to the iconic Red Wall of Rocks. Sample local delights here, afterwards you'll visit the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum. After the tour, you'll be in flight to Tokyo Haneda airport. A private vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Hakone, check in at the Fujiya Hotel.

 

Day 11

Final day in Hakone, enjoy a guided tour of the Hakone Shrine, sitting on the banks of Lake Ashi, and hidden in a lush forest which opens out to a walkway onto the lake. Meet with a green tea farmer in Mt. Fuji area and partake in a green tea experience. Return to Tokyo at the end of your tour and settle into your hotel for the evening.

 

Day 12

Departure day, private transfer to the Tokyo airport for your international travels back home.

  • Auction winner will receive an 11-night all-expenses-paid trip for two people to Japan including all meals and transportation within Japan (auction winner is responsbile for arranging flights to and from Japan)
  • Mountain huts in Kumanokodo Day 2-4 will be either two single beds or two futon mattresses. Other hotels will provide either two queen sized beds or a king sized bed. Upgrades will be available at hotels but are not available for huts
  • Auction winner will receive a follow-up email from priceless_fulfillment@mastercard.com within 2 business days of auction close about scheduling the experience
  • Experience will be scheduled on a mutually agreeable date and time, based on the partner's availability; blackout dates, including holidays, may apply
