Hellbender is a Mexican-American restaurant in Ridgewood, Queens, helmed by Chef-Partner Yara Herrera (formerly of Momofuku Ko, Xiolen, Sobre Masa). The restaurant is the first from rising star chef Herrera, and highlights her signature style of playful, Mexican-American cuisine, inspired by her upbringing in a Mexican family in Los Angeles. The menu features expertly executed Mexican-American dishes which rotate seasonally— with ingredients thoughtfully sourced either locally or from small producers in Mexico. Brunch is served from 11AM-3PM on Saturdays and Sundays, with dinner service Wednesday through Monday. Dishes are served alongside pitchers of margarita and other classic cocktails in a casual space with booth seating and eclectic design touches, including a giant taxidermy jaguar, creating a fun and lively atmosphere.
