Welcoming more than 1.75 million visitors in 2024, the Arc de Triomphe is one of the most visited monuments in France. Commissioned by Napoleon I in 1806 in honor of the imperial armies, the monument was completed under the reign of Louis-Philippe in 1836. Its designer, architect Chalgrin, drew inspiration from ancient arches to create its plans.
