Created in 1992, the public establishment of the Louvre museum is a public administrative institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is to
- Conserve, protect, and restore on behalf of the State, and to present to the public, the works that are part of the collections listed in the inventories of the Louvre national museum, for which it is responsible
- Welcome the public, develop attendance at the museum, and promote knowledge of its collections by all appropriate means
- Ensure the scientific study of its collections
- Contribute to education, training, and research in the field of art history, archaeology and museography
- Manage an auditorium and develop its programming
- Preserve, manage and enhance the buildings with which it is equipped.
