International Mountain Film Festival Tegernsee
The Tegernsee International Mountain Film Festival shows first-class films on mountaineering action, fascinating nature documentaries or laid-back portraits of daily life in the mountains around the world. Since 2003, all friends of nature and mountain enthusiasts have been drawn in great numbers to the annual film festival at Lake Tegernsee. This is exactly how the nature and documentary filmmaker Dr. Otto Guggenbichler imagined his dream would come true when he began tackling the establishment of the Mountain Film Festival in his home town.
The mayor at the time, Peter Janssen, and BR (Bavarian Broadcasting service) editor from "Bergauf-Bergab", Michael Pause, were fellow campaigners from the very beginning. The Deutsche Alpenverein, the Bayerische Rundfunk and Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH are also involved as competent partners.
The festival has welcomed over 85,000 visitors so far: "We have made a great name for ourselves," says current mayor, Johannes Hagn, who succeeded Peter Janssen as head of the Mountain Film Festival team in 2014.
Along with the films, the festival visitors are enchanted by the picturesque countryside surrounding Lake Tegernsee, the flair of the small city and the familiar atmosphere, where filmmakers, audience and hosts all feel at home.
