Cha-An Teahouse

Tucked above and away from the hustle and bustle of NYC life, Cha-An is a second-floor haven for lovers of tea and Japanese treats. Cha-An was established in 2004 by Japanese restauranteur Bon Yagi with the Japanese concept of omotenashi (a term for whole-hearted hospitality) in mind, and with wooden tables and tatami benches, washi-paper lamps and seasonal floral decorations, Cha-An features not only matcha and senchas from Japan but an extensive list of teas from all over the world as well. Whether you prefer Darjeeling Black Tea with milk or Tieguanyin Oolong Tea served in the Gongfu style, there is a tea for everyone and all are prepared with care. Cha-An is also popular for its desserts – while some, like the Hojicha Anmitsu and Mochi, are traditionally Japanese, desserts such as the Black Sesame Creme Brûlée and Matcha ‘Tiramasu’ is blend the tastes of Japan with sweets of the West. Not to be overlooked are our savory dishes, which include several types of toasts that are made with thick slices of fluffy, house-baked bread. Cha-An welcomes you to forget your worries, relax with a cup of tea, and savor the delicious food.
