Lisa Freedman
Meditation and writing teacher
In 2016, Lisa Freedman created Breathe/Read/Write, writing circles that weave the practice of meditation into the practice of writing to help people tune in to and express their inner knowing. Lisa received her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the New School, where she now offers courses including “Meditating, Seeing, and Writing” (in collaboration with the Rubin Museum) and “Writing and Activism.” Her current studies focus on Shambhala Buddhism and the path of the compassionate warrior. Lisa's own work has been published in The New York Times, Satya Magazine, Grabbing the Apple, The Shambhala Times, and Resist Much Obey Little: Inaugural Poems to the Resistance, among others. Lisa also uses meditation in her work as a writing coach.

A Home Within
For the last twenty years, A Home Within has been the only national organization dedicated solely to ensuring the emotional well-being of foster children. They provide weekly psychotherapy, free of charge, to current and former foster children, for as long as it takes. No one ages out of A Home Within. They also provide resources to support adults working with or caring for vulnerable children and youth. A Home Within envisions a world in which every foster child has a relationship with at least one consistent, caring adult. Because relationships heal.
