I was honored to be included in Magnolia Bakery’s pre-opening party for their Upper West Side location. Knowing that the staff there reads my cupcake blog, Cupcakes Take the Cake, was very exciting. The entire place smelled like sugar, and it was so much fun picking out which cupcake to eat, but also a challenge to not keep eating them, as they were replaced with trays of newly frosted cupcakes almost as soon as a few were taken. Watching little kids elaborately and proudly decorate their cupcakes was a real thrill. Adults certainly love cupcakes, but kids seem to feel a unique affinity for them. They’re possessive and delighted to get a cake all to themselves! That, along with infinite variety, is the real charm of cupcakes. You don’t have to share and can indulge your sweet tooth in your own way.
