Gelato is the perfect food, and during a recent trip to Italy, my husband and I made a point of enjoying at least 2 every day. No matter where we were, we would seek out a local gelateria for our enjoyment. We tried them all, in every city or hilltop town we visited. Every gelateria is a bit different, some more "flashy" or touristy than others, boasting neon signage, while others are hidden treasures. Some of our favorites were in Florence, which is unsurprising, as culinary excursions in Florence are never disappointing. There are pizzerias, enoteccas, osterias, trattorias, rotisseries, ristorantes, and takeaway carts, each serving fresh, scrumptious, wonderful food. But top of our list is gelato. Of course, depending on where you purchase it, gelato can be very pricey, especially when compared to ice cream. Still, to me, it is priceless!
