There are small hotels (the ones where nothing more than you and your luggage can fit in the elevator), there are tiny hotels (the ones where your luggage has to ride the elevator alone), and then there are ones that are so miniscule they literally have only one room. These are places that make the most intimate boutique hotels look ordinary. Private, one-room hotels offer guests a way to have an intimate, special experience that can be had by only one person at a time (unless you have someone else staying in your room . . .).

All the energy that would've gone into creating a larger hotel is channeled into this chic, glass-walled suite.
Here are some of the best ones around the world:
MoogHotel
Sydney, Australia
One of the coolest hotels in all of Sydney, Australia, MoogHotel has just one suite for guests; it's a spot where many millionaires and megastars have taken refuge on trips Down Under. The place feels as if its owners Susanah and Simon Page took all the energy that would've gone into creating a larger hotel and channeled it into this chic, 3-room, glass-walled suite, which is complete with designer furniture (most notably a Flap by Edra sofa and ERO/S/ chairs), multiple flat-panel televisions, a private outdoor pool, and a souped-up fitness room. Did we mention you can also reserve a butler, masseur, and chauffeured Jaguar when you book the room? Sometimes, this one-room hotel will have space for more, as the Pages occasionally rent out their next-door apartment when they travel. It's a posh spread with an impressive collection of modern furniture (including an Eames lounge and ottoman), as well as its own recording studio. Want to use it? When you check in, you'll be given the option to reserve a record producer for the occasion. Seriously. Or you can just settle for the Jag.
The One Hotel Angkor
Siem Reap, Cambodia
Housed in a French colonial townhouse on a trendy street full of spas and boutiques in Siem Reap, Cambodia, you'll find a hotel fit for one - the perfect place to escape from the crowds at the temples you've been visiting. The new One Hotel Angkor boasts a king-sized bed swathed in Frette linens, a Jacuzzi, a private roof deck, and techy amenities galore (an mp3 player, a laptop, a cell phone, and more). As if all that weren't enough, the hotel also offers its one set of guests a bevy of luxurious packages, such as the "Angkor Memory Package," which includes, among other things, meals, guides, massages, as well as a stylist and a film crew to document the 4-day experience.
Hotel Everland
Leipzig, Germany
Hotel Everland, which looks like a submarine mated with a deluxe camper, is part art project, part mobile hotel. Currently located on the roof of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Leipzig, Germany, the one-bed lodging has been traveling the world since artists Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann designed it for the Swiss Expo in 2002. During the day, the hotel can be visited by museumgoers, but at night it's for guests only. The hotel is considered a piece of art that's constantly evolving; clients are considered part of the art project and are encouraged to interact with it by literally taking parts of it home, be it the towels or anything that can be found in the well-stocked minibar . . . whatever you take is free of charge. In the room, you'll also find a king-sized bed, a record collection, and a mini indoor pool. Not heading to Germany anytime soon? Next year, it will relocate to Paris, France, and after that who knows? It just might come to you.
